July Notice to River Users

Attached is the latest notice to river users for the Yarra River, Maribyrnong River and Victoria Harbour.

Lockdown 5.0 continues. Now 5.1?

Not unexpectedly, the lockdown continues. This time until half way through the Olympic rowing regatta, sorry midnight on Tuesday 27th July.

Olympic celebrations at Mercs

We are a very optimistic mob at Mercs and we are still looking forward to celebrating our Olympians at the Club.

COVID strikes close to home

Last night the government announced that Yarra Yarra Rowing Club was announced as a tier 1 site. An infected person attended that club on 14th July between 6:05am - 8:00am, and also on 15th July 2021 between 8:02am - 10:00am. Tier 1 means anyone who has visited this location during these times must get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days from the exposure.

Alex Viney became Mercantile's first Paralympian after being announced as part of the 2021 Paralympic team. 

Lockdown 5

Here we go again. The boathouse is locked again and the equipment sent out to our active rowers again. It is so familiar, we do not even rush to advise members! 

School holiday camp review

The Club conducted it's first school holiday rowing camp on Monday June 28th through to Thursday July 1st. The attendees were treated to excellent coaching from our coaching team of Mike McKay, Al Matthews, David Colvin and Sam Fennessy. They also were educated in goal setting by Drew Ginn, injury prevention by Meg Hester, nutrition by Siobhan Crawshay, coxing by David Colvin and finally Mercantile Rowing Club by Sam Fennessy. It was a packed program.

Olympic team preparations

The Olympic team have moved up the coast to Rockhampton to train in conditions to aclimatise them for the Games. Tobias Jurss-Lewis of the ABC reported as follows:

This month we have added profiles of some very significant members: Anthony Walker - Interstate champion, Olympian and top bloke Alison Withers - a naturally talented lightweight rower who won the Victoria Cup and enjoyed success at a high level Kate Worboys - a member of the Club's historic first National Championship win for women in 1985. A landmark crew and a great achievement for Kate

Olympic celebrations - keep these dates free

The Olympic Games are only a month away so now is the time to plan your celebrations at Mercs. Join us at the Club to enjoy the racing on the big screen. Given COVID restrictions, this is a ticketed event to govern numbers.

Fun run 25th July closes Boathouse Drive

Run Melbourne, which is a community health, & fitness event, is to be held in Melbourne on Sunday, 25 July 2021.  Boathouse Drive is locked off from 4.30am to 9.30am.
