Sean Colgan was in Florida recently and caught up with Fergus Hamilton who was on a training camp with Yale University. Our best wishes to both of them.
Another great regatta on the weekend was the Scotch Mercantile Regatta, a jointly run regatta of both the Club and Scotch College. It was live streamed with a great production.
Scotch College and the Club join annually to run the Scotch Mercantile Regatta, a specialist schools regatta which incorporates the seeding races for the Head of the River and also comprises the Junior Boys State Championships.
Congratulations to the following members who have been selected into the Australian rowing team to compete in the 2022 World Cup series to be held in Belgrade (SRB), Poznań (POL) and Lucerne (SUI). And our Para Athletes will also compete at the Gavirate International Regatta (ITA). We are very pleased that the Club's para rowers are so well represented in that squad.
Last Friday night, the sport celebrated the great results of the 2020 Olympic Games and acknowledged those chosen to win the rower of the year. Our own Jessica Morrison flew in from America for the night and then flew out the next day. It was a great night and Jess figured prominantly in the presentations and awards.
Rowing Australia has announced today that due to the flooding in NSW, the SIRC facility will not be operational by the schedules start of the Championships. Rowing Australia are looking to move to the regatta to another venue, most likely to be in Nagambie, Ballarat or Adelaide.
A good Championships for the Club with many podium finishes. Given our focus on under 21 rowing this season, the main selection events were the under 21 coxed fours which were won by both our men and women.
For those people staying up for the weekend, there is an informal dinner arranged for Saturday night. All Mercantile members and supporters are welcome of course.
The Mercs supporters tent will also be up at the regatta as usual.
Joel Cain will race for the Silver Sculls and Yarra Challenge Cup. He will be joined by our clubbies and masters to race at Henley. Please note that there are two, yes two club women's eights. Great work.
