Whilst preparing for the Head of Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, Cate competed in the Australian Indoor Rowing Championships taking out the Under 16 1000m event. Well done Cate.
Yesterday Cate McNeil was the Junior Varsity Scull at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia. Congratulations Cate. Mercantile colours are now seen very often in the States.
Cate and Andrew McNeil are maintaining the rowing dream this week at the Vesper Rowing Club in Philadelphia. The Vesper Rowing Club has been incredibly hospitable to the travelling rowers from Mercs. Thank you Vesper.
The Club mourns the loss of a great lightweight rower of the 1950s, Colin D Lewis. He was often Ron Richardson's three or seven man depending on whether they raced on a four or eight. Together they were very successful.
We said that Cate McNeil would race weel at the Head of the Charles and she did not disappoint. She finished ninth in the youth scull, fourth in under 17 division and fastest 15 year old. A great performance and congratulations.
Last night Jess Morrison with partner Annabelle McIntyre easily their race in the Elite Invitational Pair. They finished the race in 17:37.72 some 29 seconds in front of the next pair from the US team. Congratulations on such a good race.
Forty-eight of the nation’s best rowers have been selected into Rowing Australia’s elite performance hubs as the countdown towards the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games intensifies. Seven of them are Mercs members. Congratulations to these great members.
Yes we are on again at the boathouse on 3rd December 2023. But what is special about this year? We're celebrating 10/20/30/40/50/60 years of Mercantile History and what’s made the club a special and memorable place.
The Head of the Charles regatta starts today in Boston and Mercs is well represented. Our roving international reporter Andrew McNeil will be sending us information during the weekend.
