It is amazing what comes up in the archives - 1995 and Phil Batters goes rowing, in a suit. From all reports, he did not fall in. We will need to get him to do that in a racing single when next we can row.

From the vaults - 1990 World Championships

The first World Championships conducted in Australia were in 1990 at Lake Barrington. They beautiful surrounds will host the Australian Championships in 2021, COVID permitting.

Your Committee is an optimistic mob and have laid down some social function dates for members, even during a 'state of emergency'. Please keep the dates free.

Annual General Meeting - noon 17 Oct 2020

The Club will break new ground in October with it's first digital annual general meeting in its 140 year history. Notices of the meeting will go out this week with the details. Further there will only be an announcement of trophy and award winners as it will not be in person. This will be a very interesting experience for us all. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Member correspondence - Paul Schreier

One of the joys of being your correspondent is receiving emails from Club members. (Fortunately emails from my peers reminiscing antics of youth are now more readily denied due to old age and poor memory.)

Special General Meeting approves new constitution

The Club broke new ground with the first video general meeting in 140 years of the Club's history. The President and another 43 members present, with another 8 others voting by proxy, unanimously approved the new constitution.

Club's Foundation enforces no tobacco rule

The investment policy of the Club's Foundation enforces a no-tobacco rule with investments. A proposed investment of the Foundation was found to have 0.5% exposure to tobacco companies and so rejected.

Kayakers buy new K4

Our kayakers have purchased a new K4 and has been delivered in Mercantile livery. Whilst we can't wait to see it once the lock down is finished, the kayackers are yet keener to paddle in it. Go Mercs
