US based under 23 Australian team selected

Congratulations to the following US-based members on their selection in this year’s National U23 Team.  Emmie Frederico - Women's Four Fergus Hamilton - Men's Eight

World Cup 2 - gold, silver and bronze for Mercs

Australia finished World Cup 2 at Poznan, Poland with 2 golds in the men's and women's four, 4 silvers in the men's eight, lightweight women's double, and lightweight women's single, and the PR1 men's scull, and 3 bronzes in the women's eight, men's double and women's scull. A great result.

Under 21 team wins the Rusty Robertson Trophy

The Australian under 21 team won the Rusty Robertson Trophy after a clean sweep across the board in all races across the week. Club member Hayley Verbunt coxed the men's crews. It was a high quality team.

Mercs in World Cup II this weekend

Mercs member Paige Barr, Kat Werry, Benjamin Canham, Angus Widdicombe and Red Matthews will figure prominently this weekend in World Cup II in Poznan, Poland.

Congratulations His Honour Bill Alstergren AO

Former Mercs member and rower in the 1980s, His Hon. Chief Justice Bill Alstergren AO of the Federal Circuit and Family Court was acknowledged in the Queens Birthday Honours list today becoming an officer of the Order of Australia. After Bill raced at Mercs, he concentrated on winter sports becoming the Australian bob-sledding coach. His award was primarily for his great and continuing work to the law, currently being Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court.

Our Para rowers on the world stage

After silver medals in the PR3 four at World Cup 1 and at the Gavirate Regatta in Italy, our members in the Australian para rowing team have returned to wintery Australia. Our members in the Australian team are: Jess Gallagher, Al Viney and Alex Vuillemin.

Henley Royal Regatta Wargrave Cup crew readies for travel

The Club has continued the tradition of sending crew/s to Henley for those not selected in Australian teams for development purposes. We are pleased to announce that the following squad has been selected to go to Henley Royal Regatta to race in the new club women's eight event, the Wargrave Cup. The crew is coached by Al Matthews.

Bob Duncan and our ANZAC Commemoration

The Club held it's ANZAC Commemoration in May this year and we were privileged to have 1956 Olympian and Club Member Bob Duncan speak about his father's experiences in both WWI and WWII. More importantly, the recovery from horrible war time experiences through rowing club life is a continuing message still relevant today.

After a warm up at the Gavirate Regatta in Italy, the Australian para rowing team is competing at World Cup I in Serbia. The Australian team contains three Mercantile rowers: Jess Gallagher, Al Viney and Alex Vuillermin.
