Wow, what a finish to WC3! The finals started with a win for Jess Morrison in the women's pair, a result which was expected given their outstanding form this year.
Then in a heart stopping finish in the women's four, Kat Werry's crew led from start to almost the finish. The fast finishing Romanians sprinted to the line just that little bit better than the Aussies to win by 0.28 second.
The women's eight were no match for Great Britain and Canada on the day but still managed a podium finish. Well done Paige Barr and Hayley Verbunt who won bronze medals.
Then the big surprise in the men's eight, Australia broke a long drought in this event to defeat favourites Great Britain, then the Dutch, Romanians, Germany and the Canadians. Congratulations stroke Gus Widdicombe and five man Jack Robertson. It was a superb race with the first four crews separated by 1.5 secs. The Aussies and the Poms were level for the first 1000m and then the Aussies managed a slight lead through the premiership quarter of the third 500m, which they held through to the finish.

Other podium finishes for Australia were the men's four, silver again to Britain, and Tara Rigney second in the scull.
Great racing also by Club member Fergus Hamilton in the men's pair taking out the B final. This is a very promising result for the newly formed pair.
Australia finished second on the point score to GBR.
