World Championships Update

Published Fri 08 Sep 2023

Much has happened since the last report.

Club member Jessica Morrison along with her partner Annabelle McIntyre have powered into the A final with a strong semi-final win.

Less convincing but still A final qualified were both the men's and women's fours with Club member Kat Werry in the two seat of the women's boat.

Sadly Fergus Hamilton in the pair will race in the B final after finishing fifth in the semi-final.

In other races last night, The Women's quad qualified for the A final but the men's quad did not.  Our men's single, and the two loghtweight doubles will also race in the C Final and the men's double in the D final.

On day 3 of the Championhships the eights had their first outing.

The men's eight stroked by club member Gus Widdicombe and also having club member Jack Robertson in the five seat, led from start to finish in a strong performance. Final A will be a cracker of a race with the English and Dutch crews also finding top form.

The women's eight was far more interesting. USA won the heat with Australia second throughout the race. However the third placed Canadians led the field early but could not maintain the pace. The Americans had a stellar middle thousand leaving the others in their wake fionishiung less than a length ahead of the Australian crew which included Club Members Paige Barr and Hayley Verbunt.
