Our only Club member racing yesterday was Red Matthews on day one of the World Championships at Racice in the Czech Republic. There were some excellent results for the Australian team but sadly Red missed out on progressing through to the quarter finals in his race and will compete in the repechage.
Australian results:
Men's Scull - Jack Cleary qualified for the quarter finals finoishing third in his heat.
Women's Scull - Tara Rigney continued her stellar form this season winning her heat and progressing to the semi-final. She raced a superb middle thousand to win comfortably in the end.
Lightweight Men's Scull - Hamish Harding won his heat aftre leading all the way.
Lightweight women's Scull - Georgia Nesbitt raced a superbly even race to finish thoird in her heat and will race in the repechage.
Lightweight men's double scull - Red Matthews and Oscar McGuinness missed out on quater final progression and will now have to race in the repechage. They finished fifth in their heat. Sadly they dropped out of contention in the third 500m.
Men's Pair - Alex Hill and Harley Moore did not have it all their own way in their heat in a battle with the Polish crew. After trailing for the first three 500m, they had to pull out a strong finish to win their heat.
Men's Double Scull - Caleb Antill and David Batholot won their heat comfortably and after leading from start to finish.
