Rowing Australia has announced that based on the current lockdowns in both NSW and the ACT, the ongoing uncertainty regarding the extended timelines for these, and the status of domestic border restrictions on interstate travel, it will be suspending the conduct of the National Training Centre (NTC) Testing Camps, currently scheduled for 4 – 8 October, 2021.
Whilst the returning Olympic athletes are enjoying a well deserved break, RA is acutely aware of the significant impact the current restrictions are having on the ability of prospective NTC athletes to train effectively. This decision, well in advance of the planned dates, is designed to remove further uncertainty around the potential implications of this.
Nominations for the Senior Team and the NTC’s will still close on Friday 3 September, however invitations to the NTC Testing Camps will not be issued until RA has confirmed new dates. Invitations to the NTC’s for Intake 1 will at this stage still be issued on 10 September, 2021 as per the NTC Guidelines.
For ease of reference, please see RA’s 2021/22 NTC Guidelines at this link here.
As the focus of everyone will quickly turn to the three year road to Paris 2024, RA looks forward to being able to provide further information relating to the re-commencement of operations at our NTC’s which will be dependent on local public health advice/restrictions and the ability to operate in a Covid safe way within them.
