The new 16 lane SIRC course!
Rowing Australia has announced today that due to the flooding in NSW, the SIRC facility will not be operational by the schedules start of the Championships. Rowing Australia are looking to move to the regatta to another venue, most likely to be in Nagambie, Ballarat or Adelaide. An announcement will be made on Monday. The full announcement follows:
Rowing Australia (RA) has received advice from the NSW Office of Sport advising that the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) is unable to host the Australian Rowing Championships (ARC) due to water contamination issues occurring as a result of the recent floods.
Rowing Australia CEO Ian Robson said: “Naturally, we are disappointed to be unable to host the Australian Rowing Championships at SIRC in 2022. SIRC is a highly regarded venue with outstanding facilities for both athletes and spectators alike. I know that our rowing community always enjoys competing at the venue of the Sydney Olympic Games Rowing Regatta. Although unavailable to RA this year, we will be back, and our thoughts and best wishes are with those communities throughout NSW and Queensland who are impacted by the floods.
“Given that we are two weeks out from the current start date of the ARC, RA understands the importance of timely updates. Our team is working around the clock to consider all available options. We expect to be in a position to provide a further update on Monday 14 March,” Robson said.
