From the Archives - Mercy dash for President's Luncheon in 2008

Published Tue 26 Sep 2023

This was not a rescue mission in the normal sense of the words, but a rescue mission to slate the thirst of those attending.

Back in March 2008, a President's luncheon was conducted for the important task of naming the new eight, the "Henry Edgar".

The boat was ready, the members arriving, but there was something missing, a suitable supply of grog! And, Boathouse Drive was closed and they were not allowing any traffic through for any reason.

There was no way to accept our delivery of alcohol for the event. This did not stop Henry Edgar or Anthony Bergelin. They directed the delivery truck downstream to Southbank where Berge met the driver with one of the coaching tinnies, loaded it up with as much booze as they could and continued back upstream to the sheds where the Youthies were recruited to unload all the valuable cargo and take it upstairs to the bar!!!!

Mercy mission accomplished and the luncheon progressed as planned.

If you have any stories for the archives, please send them through.
