On the last day of the World Championships, Gus Widdicombe wins bronze in the Men's eight and Paige Barr finished fifth in the women's eight. Congratulations Gus.
On the final day of the World Championships Australia was in the medals to the tune of three bronze medals, the me's double and eight and the wormen's single. All three were exceptional races.
The men's eight set themselves up well with a strong start and first 1000m. However, they were unable to withstand the third 500m push by the Dutch crew who took after the leading Britsh crew. The Brits held onto their start to finish first placing with the Dutch second and Australia third. It was a fast and furious race.
Tara Rigney has been the revelation of the season with her unbelievable racing. She did not disappoint in her final. She started well but Emma Twigg from New Zealand and Karolien Florijn of The Netherlands went toe to toe from the second 500m leaving the otehrs in their wake. Florijn won, Twigg second and Rigney in third.
The men's double of Calib Antill and David Bartholot also raced well but could not match a blistering last 500m from the Spanish to steal their second placing. The French led from start to finish.
In other racing, vetran Erik Horrie was no match from the new brigade in his race finishing well back in fourth position. In great news for the Ukrainians, they won gold.
The women's eight finished fifth in their final also well off the medallists but still a great result for debutant and club member Paige Barr.
