The WA insistence on locking out people from other States and the resulting Omicron problems that will arise, has led to the obvious conclusion that the Australian Masters Championships cannot be held at Champion Lakes. Rowing Australia reports:
Ballarat’s Lake Wendouree has been named the new host venue of the 2022 Australian Masters Rowing Championships.
The Australian Masters Rowing Championship 2022 was scheduled to be staged at Perth’s Champion Lakes between 19-22 May but due to the evolving Omicron situation, it is not viable for the event to proceed in Perth.
The dates for the AMRC in 2022 remain unchanged and the event will continue across the weekend 19-22 May 2022.
The historic Lake Wendouree and venue of the Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games Rowing Regatta is no stranger to hosting major rowing events, having welcomed competitors from Australia and across Victoria with hosting of multiple state regattas, as well as previous Australian Masters Rowing Championships and the World Rowing Masters Regatta.
Rowing Australia CEO Ian Robson said: “For the 2022 AMRC, we are fortunate to have an alternative location with Lake Wendouree to host. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Rowing Victoria (RV) who are taking on the hosting duties in 2022. We look forward to working with RV and the City of Ballarat to deliver a successful AMRC,” Robson concluded.
Rowing Victoria CEO Ian Jickell said: “We are excited to have the opportunity to bring the Australian Masters Rowing Championships back to Ballarat and welcome the Master’s Community to Victoria. I would like to thank the City of Ballarat and Rowing Australia for their support of this event, and we look forward to making this event an outstanding success with their assistance. We know that the Victorian Masters rowers will welcome the wider community with open arms.
“We acknowledge the effort and thank Rowing WA for their work on the event to date. We will work to make this the best possible event that we can for the Australian Masters rowing community. We look forward to seeing you in Ballarat.”
