Junior Winter Training Program

High-performing school rowers and coxswains in Years 10 & 11 are invited to sign up for the Mercantile Winter Training Program.

What is the Winter Training Program?

The program is aimed at athletes who want to put themselves in the best position to achieve their goals in the 2025/26 season by improving their sweep/sculling skills and developing their fitness both on the water and on the rowing machine.

The athletes accepted into the program will have the opportunity to train and connect with the community of student rowers from other school programs, progress technically on the water, and have a training program over winter to put themselves in the best position possible to achieve personal best results and key events during the upcoming season.

The program is led by the Mercantile coaching group who have a wealth of experience coaching athletes to success at events such as the Underage World Rowing Championships, Head of the River, and Head of the Schoolgirls regattas

What are the dates I need to know about?

Registration is required by Monday, April 14th, 2025

The program runs for 9 weeks commencing the week beginning Monday, May 5th, and concluding on Sunday, July 6th before the commencement of Term 3.

How often will I be training?

The program includes three sessions per week with a tailored schedule that complements Term 2 Winter Sport for both boys and girls.

How many athletes will be in this program?

The number of athletes accepted into the program is strictly limited and selection will be based on a combination of past rowing experience, past regatta results, and personal best ergometer scores. Athletes will need to provide all required information in the sign-up form for their application to be considered for selection.

How much does this program cost?

The 2025 Winter Training Program costs $700 for non-members or $600 for current financial members payable after being accepted into the program.

A Mercantile Club training zoot suit is included in the cost.
