Nick Reynish, hailing from New Zealand, began rowing at St Andrews College in Christchurch from 1990 to 1993. After a sports injury, he moved to Australia in 2007, contributing to the Hamilton Rowing Club in Victoria. Joining Powerhouse Rowing Club in Melbourne in 2011, he competed until 2014. Returning to rowing in 2023, he became Mercantile's Women's Clubbie Coach for the Guerin Club.
Nick's coaching philosophy emphasizes creating a fun, inclusive, structured, and team-oriented environment, correlating with success across levels. He views rowing as a discipline fostering fitness, friendships, and transformative experiences.
His achievements include winning the NZ South Island Secondary Schools Championships in 1992 and participating in five Head of The Yarra Races. Notably, at Mercantile in 2023/24, he led the Women's Guerin Club Programme, achieving a 130% membership increase. Under his guidance, the team won 77 races and collected 254 medals, including Victoria State titles and consecutive wins in the B Grade Eight category.
Looking ahead, Nick aims to build on the successes of 2023/24, fostering two competitive female eight crews and expanding the presence of scullers and crews. He envisions growing the active female membership to 30 and plans for select 8+ squads to compete in the NZ nationals in 2025. Additionally, he aims for the women's squad to rank among the top three clubs in grade rankings and Victoria State championships, with aspirations to compete at the Australian National Champs in 2025.
