Simon Gadsden heads to VIS
Published 22nd December 2017
Our Head Coach Simon Gadsden has accepted the position of VIS Head Coach replacing Bill Tait.

Simon has been our Head Coach for 3 years and has done an outstanding job leading and developing our athlete and coaching group. Simon will continue as our Head Coach until the conclusion of the National Championship Regatta, so for the remainder of season 2017/18 it will be business as usual.
Under Simon’s guidance our athletes and coaches have enjoyed a very successful period. The Club has been the most successful at the State Championships and in the top 3 clubs at the National Championships every year. For the last 2 seasons Mercantilians have made up the majority of the Victorian Team and driven its success. In 2015 Simon coached our own Addy Dunkley-Smith and Kat Werry to a Bronze medal at the Under 23 World Championships and the following year coached the U23 Mens Eight that contained 4 members – Angus Widdecombe, Tom Hunt, Callum Nott and Liam Donald. Simon’s has strongly exhibited and reinforced our values within the athlete group and always been respectful of the wider membership of the Club.
We congratulate Simon on his appointment, he is taking his new job with our best wishes and encouragement. He is keen to make this season the best yet and handover the role with the Club in the strongest possible position. We also thank the VIS for their communication and cooperation during the process of their job search.
The Club will launch a recruitment process in early January. We are confident of finding a suitable replacement, having a successful season and a smooth transition.
A new chapter begins.
Sadly we will be seeing the back of Simon at season end
