Great work by our Australian Representatives

Published 29th June 2015

Sorry for the late news on the great results at the World Cup 2 at Varese in Italy. Your correspondent was too busy enjoying the Italian summer.

Mercantile members Katrina Bateman and Charlotte Sutherland won silver in the women’s four. This is a secondary boat to the women’s eight and was a great showing given the lack of attention to this boat. Katrina and Charlotte were in the women’s eight which finished sixth. This boat needs to get into the top five to qualify for the Games.

David Crawshay raced in the men’s quad and Jennifer Clearly in the women’s quad, both crews finishing fifth and are on track for better results at the World Championships. Fiona Albert, women’s reserve, raced in the single but finished well back.

The men’s eight and the men’s lightweight quad who contain Josh Dunkley Smith and James Wilson did not race at this World Cup regatta.

The Australian results were good with two gold medals in the para events with Eric Horrie dominating his event. In the Olympic events, the stand out was of course Kim Crow who convincingly won gold in the single. The men’s double won silver in a great race and the young men’s pair raced superbly to take bronze – both crews have good opportunities for improvement.

Mercantile zooties spotted at…

Published 10th June 2015

It is hard to go past last month’s entry from Steve Macek. It remains the highest confirmed sighting of a Mercs zootie.

With the WC3 at Lucerne in early July, a more traditional sighting has been submitted from 2012 World Cup in Lucerne. The Mercantile pair, sorry Australian Olympic pair, of Kate Hornsey and Sarah Tait are pictured below before going out for a row.

Keep those entries flowing in.
